The original Football Stadium was dedicated and opened 50 years ago this year. At the time only the football field was ready to be used. Fred J. Brown was a local businessman who owned and operated Brown's Bakery on Downs Street which has been closed since 2013. Mr. Brown gave $100,000 as seed money for the stadium project as a token of thanks to the people of Defiance for helping to make Brown's Bakery 100 years old as of March 1973.
